i’m watching the documentary note by note: the making of a steinway l1037 right now. it’s absolutely fascinating — the craftsmanship, the passion. personally, i prefer the sound of baldwins (steinways have this “bright” sound that’s just not my cup of tea); however, each piano is a work of art and each piano has its unique personality. it’ll be interesting to see how the piano industry combines modernity and tradition over these next few decades though.
